DANIEL SOURCE » 'Nine' Cast Fills Up
Fergie (of the Black Eyed Peas) is set to star alongside Daniel Day-Lewis in NINE.

In her first significant leading role on the big screen, Fergie has been cast as one of the final puzzle pieces in Rob Marshall’s ensemble musical, “Nine” for The Weinstein Company, Access Hollywood has learned exclusively. The casting will be announced Friday.

While there are several female leads in the film, including Academy Award winners Kate Hudson (announced Wednesday), Nicole Kidman, Sophia Loren and Marion Cotillard, as well as Academy Award nominee Penelope Cruz, Fergie’s role will be significant.

The musical revolves around the women in the life of the male lead character, Guido Contini, who will be played by two-time Academy Award winner Daniel Day-Lewis. The show is loosely based on the life of Italian director Federico Fellini, and inspired by his masterpiece, “8½.” “Nine” opened on Broadway in 1982 and was revived starring (amongst others) Antonio Banderas (and later, John Stamos), Mary Stuart Masterson, Jane Krakowski, Chita Rivera and Laura Benanti.

DANIEL SOURCE » Kate Husdon to Star in 'Nine'?
Kate Hudson has reportedly landed a highly coveted role in the film remake of the Broadway hit Nine. Apparently Hudson's role, an American writer for Vogue named Stephanie, wasn't even in the original Broadway show. Marshall & Co. created it just for her!

Kate joins a cast that already includes Oscar winners Daniel Day Lewis and Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz and Marion Cotillard.

DANIEL SOURCE » "Nine" - It's Official
It has already been confirmed by PEOPLE.COM, but now a statement has been released by NINE director, Rob Marshall confirming Daniel's role.

In statements released about director Rob Marshall switching agencies from ICM to CAA, Marshall commented on the Nine movie noting that "I am thrilled to report that everything on my film Nine is moving forward with great momentum. Daniel Day-Lewis' deal was closed last week and we are on schedule to begin rehearsals in London on July 28 with shooting to commence September 29."

Day-Lewis replaced the previously attached Javier Bardem who left the project a few weeks ago citing exhaustion. Variety recently confirmed recent casting rumors noting that Penelope Cruz, Marion Cotillard, Sophia Loren, Nicole Kidman and Judi Dench are attached to the film as well.

Nine is a musical with a book by Arthur Kopit and music and lyrics by Maury Yeston and is based off of Fredrico Fellini's movie 8 1/2. The play tells the story of a young film maker living in Venice trying to juggle all of the women in his life.

The Broadway production, directed by Tommy Tune and choreographed by Thommie Walsh, opened on May 9, 1982 at the 46th Street Theatre, where it ran for 729 performances. The cast included Raúl Juliá as Guido, Karen Akers as Luisa, Liliane Montevecchi as Liliane, Anita Morris as Carla, Shelly Burch as Claudia, and Taina Elg as Guido's mother. Replacements later in the run included Bert Convy and Sergio Franchi as Guido, Maureen McGovern as Luisa, and Priscilla Lopez as Liliane. The musical won five Tony Awards, including best musical.

DANIEL SOURCE » Daniel Day-Lewis Lands Nine Role
According to PEOPLE.COM DANIEL DAY-LEWIS has signed on to star in NINE:

Nearly three weeks after this year's Best Supporting Actor (for No Country for Old Men) Javier Bardem withdrew from the upcoming screen adaptation of the Broadway show, citing exhaustion, this year's Best Actor winner (for There Will Be Blood) will assume the leading role, reports Weekly Variety.

The London-born Day-Lewis, 51, will play the Italian film director Guido Contini, based on flamboyant cinema artist Federico Fellini and his semi-autobiographical 1963 romp 8 ½, which starred Marcello Mastrioianni. (The title referred to the number of movies Fellini had previously directed.)

Guido is conflicted by his artistic drive, sexual desires and his Catholicism, and Raul Julia, who was Puerto Rican, originated the role for the musical in 1982. Antonio Banderas, a Spaniard, starred in a successful 2003 Broadway revival.

For the movie, Nicole Kidman and Judi Dench have been widely mentioned to star as two of the many women in Guido's life, while this year's La Vie En Rose Oscar winner Marion Cotillard, screen legend Sophia Loren and Bardem's real-life girlfriend Penelope Cruz have already been cast.

The movie, scheduled for release next year, is to be directed by Chicago's Rob Marshall. Harvey Weinstein, whose former studio released the 2002 Chicago and 1989's My Left Foot – which brought Day-Lewis his first Best Actor Oscar – is producing.

DANIEL SOURCE » Stage is Set for Return
Although he collapsed on stage when he played Hamlet at the National and began to sob uncontrollably, Daniel Day-Lewis is considering a return to the stage in the surprising role of Guido Contini in Nine, a musical based on Federico Fellini's autobiographical film 8½.

It would be a major coup for the Broadway show's producer, Harvey Weinstein, whose first association with Day-Lewis came when his former company Miramax Films acquired the distribution rights to My Left Foot, for which the actor won his first Academy Award.

The son of the former poet laureate Cecil Day-Lewis would replace Javier Bardem, who dropped out of the show claiming that he was exhausted. The role involves portraying a famous film director who experiences personal and creative crisis while trying to balance all the women in his life. Dame Judi Dench, Sophia Loren, Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz and Marion Cotillard are lined up to play the women.
